Chris Zarate started dancing after a Michael Jackson performance caught his eyes. He would play the tape, imitate, and rewind almost everyday, trying to perfect The King Of Pop and all his moves! This love for dancing would later expose him into dancing for Dj Too Kool Chris at the age of 12.
For 3 consecutive years, he and his friends would be the opening act for the B96 BBash (2 for TKC and 1 for Zero Gravity). In 2002, he was blessed enough to bump into Hip Hop Connxion, where he spent 5 years furthering honing his performance skills and training under Karlo Familiar and Suave. A few years from his departure from HHC, he was invited to be a member for Design.
Under the leadership and training from Angelina Grima and one of his first mentors, Karlo Familiar, he dived even further into dance, focusing more on the foundations, while also exploring new ideas and concepts. Design went on to become 2010 and 2011 Prelude Midwest Champions. It was during this time that he felt it was time to experiment with a new group and concept. He founded Work In Progress, with his intent to spread the word that dancers should never forget the reason why we started this art form in the first place; “Happiness and Joy”. He would later join the fierce and energetic, “The Puzzle League”. Within this new group, he grabbed 1st place with them at the World Of Dance 2013. Currently, he has joined with CODA (Chicago Onyx Dance Alliance) to further his learning experience from different choreographers. Chris continues to spread his knowledge to the youth by teaching at several studios in the Chicago suburbs. His dream is to one day own his very own studio, promoting all the skills, wisdom, and intentions that he has learned along the way from the many teachers that have inspired him.
